Description
Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes are creamy, cheesy, and golden baked with layers of tender potatoes, garlic cream sauce, and gooey cheddar. Perfect for Christmas dinner or any holiday feast.
Ingredients
4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
1 ½ cups double cream
1 ½ cups whole milk
2 cups cheddar cheese, grated
2 garlic cloves, minced
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
½ tsp onion powder
½ tsp paprika
1 tbsp butter
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Grease a baking dish with butter.
3. In a saucepan, combine cream, milk, garlic, salt, pepper, onion powder, and paprika. Warm gently without boiling.
4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the dish, pour half the cream mixture over them, and sprinkle with half the cheese.
5. Repeat with remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
6. Cover dish with foil and bake 45 minutes.
7. Remove foil and bake another 25–30 minutes until golden and tender.
8. Let rest 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Use a mandoline or sharp knife for evenly thin potato slices.
Choose starchy potatoes like Russet or Yukon Gold for best texture.
Can be made ahead, stored covered in the fridge, and reheated in the oven.
Add extra seasonings or herbs for flavor variation.
Top with breadcrumbs for a crunchier finish if desired.
