Description
A cozy one pan Christmas dinner starring juicy steak, golden potatoes, and melty garlic herb butter. Big flavor, quick cook time, and minimal cleanup for a festive night.
Ingredients
3 tsp salt (or more to taste)
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp onion powder
2 tsp Italian seasoning
2 tsp paprika
2 lbs cubed steak (sirloin or NY Strip)
2 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp browning sauce (optional)
2 tbsp olive oil, divided
6 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
2 tbsp minced garlic
2 tbsp chopped parsley
1 tsp salt (for garlic butter)
Parsley and red pepper flakes, for garnish
Instructions
1. Mix salt, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, and paprika, then divide the blend in half.
2. Mash softened butter with minced garlic, chopped parsley, and 1 tsp salt, then set aside.
3. Toss steak cubes with Worcestershire, optional browning sauce, and half of the seasoning blend until coated.
4. Boil potatoes for 5 to 6 minutes until slightly softened, drain, cool briefly, then toss with remaining seasoning and 1 tbsp olive oil.
5. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a hot skillet over medium high, then sear steak for 5 to 7 minutes until browned; remove and set aside.
6. In the same skillet, cook potatoes for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and fork tender.
7. Return steak to the skillet, add the garlic herb butter, toss until glossy, then garnish with parsley and red pepper flakes.
Notes
Garnish with parsley and red pepper flakes as desired.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Reheat gently in a skillet over medium low with a little oil or in a 350°F oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
Use a cast iron skillet for best results.
Avoid overcooking steak to prevent toughness.
Parboiling potatoes helps them cook evenly.
Russet potatoes may be used as a substitute.
