Description
Learn how to make a monster truck cake with green “grass,” chocolate “mud,” Oreo dirt, and a toy truck climbing a hill. Fun, fast, and perfect for Halloween or birthdays.
Ingredients
1 boxed cake mix (Betty Crocker or Dunkin Hines)
Water, oil, and eggs as package directs
Vanilla icing
Chocolate icing
Green food coloring
1 box Oreo cookies, cream removed
Chocolate malt balls
2 round 8″ or 9” cake pans
Optional: Monster truck toy (e.g. Grave Digger)
Optional: Birthday number topper
Optional: Finish line flag toppers
Instructions
1. Prepare the cake mix according to package directions. Divide into two round pans and bake as instructed. Let cool completely.
2. Stack the two cake layers. Cut a shallow wedge from one quarter section to create a ramp-like hill for the truck to climb.
3. Tint vanilla icing with green food coloring until you reach your preferred shade. Frost the cake with green icing, avoiding the cut-out hill.
4. Spread chocolate icing in the cut-out section to mimic mud. Optionally, add a chocolate icing border around the base.
5. Remove filling from Oreo cookies and crush the cookies into chunky pieces with a masher or rolling pin.
6. Sprinkle the crushed Oreos over the chocolate icing for realistic mud texture.
7. Place chocolate malt balls along the muddy section to represent boulders.
8. Position the monster truck toy climbing the hill. Add finish line flags and a birthday number topper as desired.
Notes
Decorate creatively by tucking small toy cars under the truck for a dramatic “crushed” effect.
