Description

Soft, almond-flavored Italian Christmas cookies glazed with sweet icing and colorful sprinkles — perfect for the holidays.


Ingredients

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 cup granulated sugar

3 large eggs (room temperature)

1 1/2 tsp almond extract

2 cups powdered sugar (sifted)

23 tbsp milk

1 tsp almond extract (for icing)

Nonpareil sprinkles


Instructions

1. Mix flour and baking powder in a small bowl and set aside.

2. Beat melted butter until fluffy, then mix in eggs, sugar, and almond extract until combined; it may look lumpy.

3. Gradually blend in the flour mixture until just combined.

4. Chill dough for at least 1 hour.

5. Roll dough into small balls and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced 1 inch apart.

6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 8–10 minutes until set but not browned.

7. Let cookies cool completely.

8. For icing, mix powdered sugar with milk gradually until a thick glaze forms, then stir in almond extract.

9. Dip cooled cookies into glaze, let excess drip off, and immediately add sprinkles before the icing sets.

Notes

Do not overmix the dough to avoid toughness.

Always spoon flour into the measuring cup to prevent dense cookies.

Ensure glaze is not too thick or thin; aim for a consistency that coats but still drips slowly.
